The PFFP Orientation

The Preparing Future Faculty and Professionals (PFFP) program at IU Indianapolis helps graduate students and postdoctoral fellows strengthen the skills that matter in today’s academic and professional workforce. Through year-round programming, participants explore teaching, research, organizational/professional, and service competencies and progress toward becoming a PFFP Scholar.

  • Find out how you can begin your own path toward your PFFP Scholar certification and credential

Getting started has never been easier. You will be guided through the application process during orientation and learn more about all you can do as part of the program.

PFFP Pathways Conference

The Pathways Conference brings together graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and experts for seminars, workshops, and networking opportunities designed to build awareness, skills, and professional relationships. The conference features panels on career planning, effective mentoring, and showcases campus research through the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) and Three Minute Pitch (3MP) competitions.

The 2025 Pathways Conference is scheduled for November 13, 2025 in CE 409 from 9:30am-2:30pm.

3MT/3MP Competition

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT), developed by The University of Queensland, challenges doctoral students to explain their research clearly and engagingly in just three minutes for a non-specialist audience.

Graduate students seeking master’s degrees (M.S., M.A., M.P.H., M.P.A., etc.) or Graduate Certificates can participate in the Three Minute Pitch (3MP) competition.

Both competitions occur at the annual PFFP Pathways Conference.
