Starting life as a graduate student is exciting but can also be challenging, especially if you're new to the area or bringing your family with you.

We can help you explore the many options and resources available for graduate and professional students at IU Indianapolis. This includes information about Indianapolis and nearby communities to help you get involved in campus life, student organizations, and community resources.

University Writing Center — One-to-one consultations at any stage of writing, from a blank page to final citations. Coursework, theses, dissertations, and applications. Up to four appointments a week.
University Library — Subject librarians assigned by discipline will sit down with you and help build a search strategy. Worth an appointment before a literature review rather than during one.
English for Academic Purposes — Coursework and resources for multilingual students working on academic writing, research, and oral communication. Includes ESL tutoring.
LinkedIn Learning — Free with your IU account. Software, technical, and professional skills courses you would otherwise pay for.
Reserve a library study room — Bookable individual and group rooms in University Library.

Career Services — Resume and CV review, interview preparation, and career advising for any field.
Office of Student Employment — On-campus jobs, hiring paperwork, and student employment policy.
Handshake — The campus job board. On-campus positions, internships, and employers recruiting IU students.
Hire Attire — Free professional clothing for interviews and career fairs. Drop in Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Hine Hall 210. No appointment needed.

Office of International Affairs — Immigration advising, visa documents, employment authorization, and support for international students and scholars.
Office of Community Engagement — Connects you to volunteer work, service learning, and community partners around Indianapolis.
Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response — Confidential support and advocacy for anyone affected by sexual or relationship violence, whether or not you file a report.
Report an incident — For discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sexual misconduct involving a university employee. Handled by the Office of Institutional Equity.
Office of Civil Rights Compliance — University policy on non-discrimination, and where to go with questions about your rights.
Military-Connected Student Services — Benefits, certification, and support for veterans, service members, and military families.

Paws' Pantry — Campus food pantry, open to all students with a CrimsonCard. Groceries, fresh produce when available, hygiene products, and household basics.
Student Advocacy and Support — A single point of contact when something outside the classroom is affecting your studies. They will help you work out what you need and who provides it.
Emergency support and Help Me R.O.A.R. — Short-term assistance for an unexpected crisis, including emergency funding and referrals.

Graduate financial support — Fellowships, awards, travel funding, loans, and tax information for graduate students.
Office of the Bursar — Your student account. Billing questions, payment plans, and fee remission that has not posted correctly.
MoneySmarts — Free one-to-one financial counseling through IU. Budgeting, loan repayment, and money questions specific to student life.
GradSense — Budgeting and salary data built specifically around graduate education, from the Council of Graduate Schools.
GradGrants Center — IU-wide service that helps you find external funding and will review your application before you submit it.

Counseling and Psychological Services — Campus counseling. The initial consultation is free and group counseling is free. Individual counseling has a modest fee with reductions available. Call, email, or walk in.
TimelyCare — Free virtual mental health care for IU students, including after hours and at weekends.
Student Mental Health Resource Finder — Start here if you are not sure what kind of support you need. It routes you by situation.
Health and Wellness Coaching — One-to-one coaching on sleep, stress, and habits. Not therapy, and useful for things that are not a clinical concern.
Clinical Psychology Mental Health Center — Training clinic run by the psychology department. Longer-term therapy at reduced rates. Fees may apply.

Connect2Help 211 — Central Indiana's referral line for basic needs. One call or search covers housing, utilities, food, and health. Start here if you are not sure who to contact.
Aspire Indiana Health — Comprehensive health services including primary care, behavioral health, and recovery support, with a sliding fee scale.
Adult & Child Health — Behavioral health and family medical care across Indianapolis.
Firefly Children and Family Alliance — Family support services, including for students who are parents.
The Julian Center — Shelter, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Psychology Today therapist directory — Search therapists in Indianapolis by insurance, specialty, and availability.
SupportLinc Employee Assistance Program — Free short-term counseling and legal and financial consultations, available if you hold an appointment through IU.

Report a Bias

If you have experienced a bias incident, you can submit a report to alert the university. Reporting an incident allows IU to support those impacted and take steps to prevent future incidents.
