As we reach the close of another semester at IU Indianapolis, I want to take a moment to recognize what this season represents. It is not just an ending, but a culmination of persistence, growth, and purpose.
Graduate education is not easy work. It demands curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to sit with complexity. Each of you has navigated challenges, advanced knowledge in your field, and contributed to a community of scholars committed to making a difference. That matters.
What makes your work here even more meaningful is where you are doing it. IU Indianapolis is a premier R1 urban research campus, situated in the heart of our state’s capital city. This location is not just geographic; it is mission-driven. You are learning, researching, and serving alongside communities, organizations, and partners across Indianapolis and beyond, advancing a shared commitment to improve lives across Indiana. Our work is grounded in Indiana, with Indiana, and for Indiana, and you are an essential part of that promise.
Whether you are completing your degree this semester or continuing your journey, know that your work extends far beyond the classroom, the lab, or your dissertation. You are shaping ideas, systems, and solutions that will influence the future of your profession and the communities you serve.
As you take your next steps, whether into a new role, the next phase of your program, or a well-earned break, I encourage you to pause and reflect on how far you have come. Carry that forward with confidence.
We are proud of you, and we are excited to see the impact you will continue to make.
With appreciation,
Rebecca J. Bartlett Ellis, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, FAAN
Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School
IU Indianapolis
