Graduate School’s inaugural Sherry F. Queener Staff Spirit Awardee
The IU Graduate School Indianapolis launched the Annual Sherry F. Queener Staff Spirit Award to recognize a full-time staff within the school who through extraordinary service and special contributions exemplify the spirit of Dr. Sherry Queener, former University Graduate School associate dean. Katina Reedy, Graduate Admissions and Fellowship Coordinator, is the school’s inaugural awardee.
Despite rapid environmental change, Katina has remained loyal and committed to ensuring that our office performance does not waiver. Katina often takes on additional responsibilities and leadership roles without complaint, and always goes the extra mile to make certain that graduate students are set up for success.
Please join us in congratulating Katina!

IU Graduate School Programs: Faculty departures and graduate student committees
If a faculty member is serving on graduate student committees and plans to leave the institution, please notify the Graduate School gradoff@iupui.edu of the faculty member’s planned departure.
Updating our office as soon as possible will allow our team to guide you on how this change impacts student progression.
For IU degree programs falling under the Graduate School, if your program wishes that departing individual to remain on student committees, you will need to nominate that faculty member for limited status as graduate faculty.
The departing faculty member will no longer retain their endorsement or graduate faculty status unless we receive your application for limited status. The departing faculty member with graduate faculty limited status, can serve on student committees, and attend committee meetings and offer advice/mentoring to students. They can no longer serve as the chair of a student committee but can become a co-chair with a current IU faculty member who holds the endorsement as graduate faculty. Unless the faculty member retains an appointment at IU, they will no longer be able to approve eDocs. But they can share their perspectives on student progress with the other members of the committee.
Graduate Student Commencement Ceremony
Friday, May 12 4 p.m. Michael A. Carroll Stadium, IUPUI
Encourage students in your schools to attend the Graduate Commencement Ceremony. Remind Ph.D. graduates that the hooding ceremony is part of the campus commencement and if they plan to walk in the May ceremony, they should ask their faculty advisor or favorite mentor to attend the event and to place their hood on their shoulders at the ceremony.
If a student’s mentor cannot attend, we ask that the Associate Dean, graduate program directors or a faculty member attend to help students in their program with the hooding section of the ceremony. This is a memorable part of the ceremony and photos are taken for the students. Please inform your school’s commencement team of faculty who plan to attend to help with hooding and share those names with the Graduate School via an email to Dr. Blum jblum@iupui.edu.
Office of Student Advocacy and Support (OSAS) Update
Due to recent staff transitions, direct all OSAS inquiries to the general student advocate email stuadvoc@iupui.edu so a member of the OSAS team can respond appropriately. Dean Spratt will serve as the interim director of the Office of Student Advocacy and Support.
