Sharvonne Williams

M.P.A. in Nonprofit Management

What degree are you working toward?

I am working towards my Masters of Public Affairs in non-profit management from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Eventually I'll go on to earn a Ph.D.

Why did you choose graduate school at IUPUI?

I choose IUPUI specifically for the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the experience and educational setting it offers. By being on campus I have learned how to work with other professionals and articulate my shared interest in the nonprofit sector. By working on and off campus I have learned more about the community that I live in to become part of the Hoosier state. I am convinced that IUPUI has allowed me to develop the kind of expertise necessary to lead a nonprofit organization through the 21st century.

What’s been your favorite academic accomplishment since you’ve been here?

Recently, I was awarded the William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion for demonstrating exemplary commitment to the Indianapolis community during my years as an IUPUI student. The medallion was awarded to me because I exhibited personal development, intellectual growth, and positive community impact as a result of my civic engagement experiences.

What do you enjoy most about life in Indianapolis?

The large network of professionals and students I have come to know. Coming from New York City in 2011, I have created a greater sense of community and a deeper passion to help those in need.
